On deck
Have you ever released a project only to find it drawing you back towards it? The topic of my last essay Reckonings, the Israeli assault on Gaza, has taken over my mind and soul. Because of the issue’s complexity, I didn’t get to comment at all on the music—the engine behind my writing. So, I’m creating a taped commentary on the Reckonings tracks. It’s a learning curve as I teach myself basic sound editing, but a worthwhile effort—I have so much more to say.
To counter the heaviness of the Israel-Palestine (and now Israel-Lebanon and Israel-Iran) crisis and what’s going on here in the US, I’ve drawn close to color and light and of course the music.
I’ll be releasing two video projects soon. One is a new full color cut of my graff short, NOTICED, set to audio from the 1963 Robert Wise film, THE HAUNTING. It includes new images I captured of writers NOTICE and PARLE and is in part my response to anti-graffiti municipal politics going on here right now, leaving the freeways bare and colorless.
The second video is a high-energy short set to an 80s rap song from an album I love.
Also underway for Listening Booth is a graff-themed issue featuring a collection of photographs I took this summer in LA along with some releases from area rappers.
Can’t wait to share these with you.
Peace,
Dana
